Partners in Education (PiE) awarded Teachers Who Inspire awards to six outstanding SFPS teachers from May 3rd-15th, with each teacher receiving $1,500. Josh Acuna, Ramirez Thomas Elementary School
Josh Acuna, a fifth grade teacher at Ramirez Thomas Elementary School, began his career as an educational assistant in a high-needs special education classroom. The experience provided him with valuable experience in differentiating assignments for students, adapting lessons to meet students' various needs and ways to keep students engaged and excited about school. Now in his second year of teaching, Acuna has a phenomenal talent for connecting with students and establishing community, and finds ways to encourage and challenge students to be the best version of themselves. For him, every day is an opportunity to empower students with knowledge and empathy. He is also an active community member, volunteering monthly with his family to prepare meals for the homeless and vulnerable populations. Acuna also serves on the New Mexico Teacher Leader Network as a state ambassador, advocating for the New Mexico Teacher Pipeline.
Josh Acuña, Escuela Primaria Ramírez Thomas

Patricia "Patty" De Dios, Acequia Madre Elementary School
Patricia De Dios, a kindergarten teacher at Acequia Madre Elementary School, is known by all for her kindness and warmth. She participated in Responsive Classroom training in the fall to help hone her wholesome approach, was the first teacher to volunteer and join the Cultures of Teaching cohort, an initiative she helped bring to the school that focuses on student thinking and inspiring a love for learning, and has worked with another teacher on organizing a student council to emphasize student voice and choice. De Dios models inclusive practices and inspires teachers by her example. She also welcomes parents to her classroom to share their talents. De Dios makes the transition to elementary school a smooth and relaxing experience, even encourages incoming kindergarten parents to meet outside in the garden for a yoga session on the first day of school.
Patricia "Patty" De Dios, Escuela Primaria Acequia Madre

Rachel Gersh, El Camino Real Academy
Rachel Gersh, a fourth grade bilingual and Spanish English language arts and science teacher, has taught at El Camino Real Academy for more than 10 years, having been an elementary bilingual teacher at Salazar Elementary for six years. A dedicated and compassionate dual language teacher, Gersh makes learning exciting by implementing Guided Language Acquisition Design (GLAD) units in her classroom, which let students learn the curriculum through different activities. She supports students in finding their love of reading and improving their reading skills, including tutoring those who need extra support after school. She also conducts student-led parent-teacher conferences where students present their progress, achievement and academic goal-setting to their parents. Gersh represents El Camino Real Academy on the district's Bilingual Task Force that is working to improve and realign district bilingual programming to better support emergent bilingual students and is an active supporter of science in education. She has been a member of the LANL Foundation's Teacher Leader Cadre for five of her 10 years at the school.
Rachel Gersh, Academia El Camino Real

Anna Gibson, Salazar Elementary School
Anna Gibson teaches art to students in grades K-6 at Salazar Elementary. A teacher for roughly 15 years, Gibson has taught special, general and gifted education and art, inspiring students to want to come to class and learn by showing them their potential. Her ART Squad students were featured in the Santa Fe Reporter last July for their STEAM art project, which unified art, science and digital learning and was displayed at the New Mexico Public Education Department. She hosts visiting artists in the classroom and provides support for students to connect with the community at large. Gibson creates strong bonds and connections with each student, exemplifying kindness and respect for all. In her classroom, she builds skills that support and connect to the general education curriculum, including measuring, vocabulary, sentence structure and critical thinking. For art openings, she creates a magical experience within Salazar's hallways. Through her work with the New Mexico Association for the Gifted, Gibson was instrumental in pushing through legislation that allows for identification of artistic talent. She leads among her peers in using research-based methods to identify artistic talent.

Zoe Gierman, Wood Gormley Elementary School
Zoe Gierman, a second grade teacher at Wood Gormley Elementary for six years, teaches her students the power of their own voices and backgrounds. She consistently weaves students' home lives into the classroom, as with a class recipe book students recently created consisting of their favorite family recipes, many representing their traditions. At the start of school, students made keychains for their backpacks, selecting beads that represented pieces of their lives. And on the 100th day of school, her class dressed up as their 100-year-old selves and celebrated by playing math games. The whole school knows when Gierman's class is leaving for dismissal as they can be heard singing "We are awesome!" Her students consistently improve on standardized test scores across content areas. One of the most impressive aspects of her success is her impact on students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). She has mastered the art of ensuring that all students have access to material as she makes modifications to assignments, creates in-depth individualized projects, masterfully creates small groups and employs the help of volunteers and student mentors. Gierman has long been a member of the Wood Gormley Site Leadership Team, serving as a link between teachers and administrators, has been instrumental in helping her colleagues implement standards-based grading and helped guide a cohort of teachers through LETRS training, a scientific approach to teaching reading.

Chris Mosconi, a second grade teacher at El Dorado Community School for more than five years, inspires students to come to his class through his creativity and contagious joy of learning. Students sometimes forget they are learning, like when partaking in his "Pirate Voyage," where students use STEAM skills to create pirate scrolls complete with stories and timelines of their voyages. Mosconi's students are inspired to take the lead in their learning. One nominator said, "One of my favorite things about entering his classroom is the way students are often up at the Smartboard, on the floor measuring life-size models, in centers creating new inventions, cultivating family shields and embracing their inner Jedis with May the Fourth celebrations." Mosconi is a member of several school committees, including the Site Leadership Team, Math Leadership Team, Sunshine Committee and Digital Learning Team. He is passionate about being a team player and rolls up his sleeves to support any team member in need, whether with technology or developing lessons.
