2nd Grade English - Darlene Fortier

Darlene Fortier is originally from the Boston area and moved to New Mexico 26 years ago. She loves it here! She started on her post high school educational journey teaching art at her local YMCA in Boston and got hooked on teaching. Darlene has been recognized by Fine Arts for Children and Teens (FACT) for bringing art into the classroom as a means of self-discovery.

She holds an AA in Education, a BA in Elementary Education and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in reading. She is a level III k-8 licensed teacher in the state of NM. She also works for a national nonprofit called Teach-Plus as a Research Fellow.

She believes children need to do to learn, so the students are the heavy lifters and she facilitates the process. With a growth mindset, her class works together towards the common goals of social/emotional wellbeing, as well as ELA (English Language Arts) and STEM (Science, Teachnology, Engineering and Math) proficiency.

She has three grown children and her hobby is making recycled jewelry.
